Hello! My name is Kiana Calles, and I am honored to be considered for a position on the PSR Board of Directors. Volleyball has been a lifelong passion of mine — one that has shaped me as both an athlete and a coach for over a decade here in the Puget Sound Region.
I began playing club volleyball at the age of 10 and was fortunate to be involved in the All-Stars program (formerly High Performance). Today, I’m proud to be in my eighth-year coaching within that same program, helping develop the next generation of players. I also serve as the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Skagit Valley College, where I’m entering my seventh season and recently celebrated an NWAC championship with our team.
As both a coach and a mother to a young athlete playing club volleyball, I bring a unique perspective to the table. I’m deeply invested in the growth and evolution of our region’s volleyball community — not just for today’s players, but for future generations. I believe in advocating for meaningful change that supports athlete development, whether the goal is to play at the collegiate level or pursue opportunities in professional volleyball.
Above all, I want to be a voice for young women in our sport and contribute to a community that uplifts and empowers them through volleyball. Thank you for your consideration— it would be a true privilege to serve.
Thank you for considering me to serve as a member of the Puget Sound Region Board of Directors. I have a lifelong passion for volleyball and a deep well of leadership experience to his candidacy for the Puget Sound Region USA Volleyball Board. A former high school standout, I played on the 1991 Ohio State runner-up team and went on to compete at the collegiate level, playing one season with the Ohio State University men’s club team and earning a spot on the varsity squad for the 1992–93 season before a career-ending injury.
Professionally, I have bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio State, along with an MBA from the University of Michigan. I founded and led a successful engineering consulting firm for over two decades, handling everything from technical project delivery and team leadership to HR, financial management, and regulatory compliance functions. I currently serve on the board of the non-profit North Cascades Institute where I am a member of the Finance Committee.
I have coached girls through the Whatcom County Boys & Girls Club as well as boys at the U14 and U16 level at Apex Northwest Volleyball Club. I am an active volleyball parent—my daughter has played club for four seasons and as a junior is entering her third year on the varsity team at Sehome High School in Bellingham, WA.
As a board member, I would be committed to expanding coaching resources for new coaches, growing boys volleyball throughout the region and helping PSR field competitive All-Star teams for national-level play.
I would love to be considered for one of the open Puget Sound Region Board positions. Mainly, my desire is a result of my outside involvement running a nonprofit that supports youth (For Goodness Cakes, if you’d like to learn more about it!) and my great love of the game (I played D1, as well as have a daughter who will soon play at Auburn University). I’m also about to become an empty nester, as my youngest of 5 graduates in December. I will have more time to devote to a cause I feel strongly about.
I strongly believe the PSR has never been stronger, and I would like to be able to use the experience I have as a player, parent, and professional in the nonprofit sector to help it continue to grow.
I have been involved in the volleyball world for most of my life, both as a player and a parent. I played volleyball for the University of Utah and more recently, have been on the sidelines as a parent supporting a daughter and son who have played for a combined 7 years in the Puget Sound Region. With my youngest now graduating and moving across the country to play in the SEC, I have more time to give back to a community which has given so much to us.
Professionally, I graduated from the University of Maryland with Phi Kappa Phi honors. I opened and am the Seattle chapter leader of a national nonprofit that bakes and delivers birthday cakes to at-risk youth. We partner with homeless and domestic violence shelters, foster agencies, and facilities for medically fragile youth. As a result, I have extensive experience with fundraising, community outreach, and sponsorships. My husband and I live in Sammamish and are the parents of 5 grown children.
As a long-time volleyball enthusiast, I'm excited for the opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of the Puget Sound Region. I've been a software developer for 29 years, with experience at Microsoft, Tableau, and Snowflake, where I've developed skills in strategic problem-solving, collaboration, and systems thinking. With the recent surge in accessible AI technologies, I'm particularly interested in exploring how we might use AI to streamline operations, improve communication, and support the Region’s staff, clubs, and volunteers more efficiently.
Volleyball has been a massive part of my life the past 30+ years. I played club at Iowa State University, and now as a parent of two daughters who've excelled at club and high school volleyball -- one currently at the University of Puget Sound -- I've experienced the sport from every angle. I've coached at Boys and Girls Club, volunteered as the official Hudl liaison for NW Juniors and Lake Washington High School (you may have seen me with my camera atop a 13' light stand), and plan to become an active referee when my youngest graduates high school.
I would bring a strong work ethic, a collaborative mindset, and a willingness to help wherever I'm needed. I deeply care about the future and development of volleyball in our region and would be honored to have the privilege to serve on the Board.
My name is Emily Ottman (she/her) and volleyball is not only a passion of mine, but a passion that had a positive impact on my life.
I discovered the sport in third grade thru the Alderwood Boys and Girls Club and fell in love ever since as I continued to play through college. I grew up and currently reside in the Lynnwood, Washington, and played for Lynnwood High school (2009-2013) as libero where I was awarded honorable mention two years back-to-back. I participated in club volleyball throughout the Puget Sound Region for seven years.
While I studied Business Management and Human Resources in college, I took my team to the NWAC Championship with Shoreline College and placed third in an international championship in Lima, Peru. I came back to my alma mater in 2021 to coach volleyball and have enjoyed being able to make an impact and offer a positive experience for athletes (ages 12-18) and continue to coach club volleyball in the Puget Sound Region.
When I’m not coaching, I work full-time for Starbucks and have been with the brand for five and a half years – currently as an administrative assistant supporting various Senior Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Directors.
Prior to Starbucks, I held multiple leadership roles with various retailers within L Brands, such as Victoria’s Secret and was also a portfolio manager in healthcare. I found this role to be a great opportunity where I can continue to positively impact and influence my community, team sports and young adults.
