Puget Sound Region Hires New Commissioner

August 16, 2017

The Board of Directors is excited to introduce our region's new commissioner, Cindy Compoc. Cindy will begin on September 5th, 2017. At this time we would also like to publicly thank John Bryant for his years of dedicated service and leadership as commissioner.

Cindy is excited to return to the Pacific Northwest after retiring from the United States Air Force in October 2015.

Cindy grew up in Milwaukie, Oregon, and graduated from Rex Putnam High School in 1990.  She has been a member of USA Volleyball in various capacities since 1986 beginning as a junior player.  Throughout the years, she has been a member of the Sun Country Region, the Florida Region, and twice a member of the Rocky Mountain Region.

She has participated as an adult player, regional referee, a junior national referee candidate, and a junior’s club coach.

Cindy has coached adult and junior girl’s teams for the last 20 years, including two years as a high school varsity coach.

Cindy brings a wealth of knowledge and diverse experience to the position of Commissioner.  While serving in the Air Force, she served in various locations across the United States and Europe as a paralegal and commandant of one of the Air Force’s premier enlisted leadership schools.  Cindy has managed large work teams who have been recognized as Team of the Year for three consecutive years.  She knows her way with managing an operational budget having secured construction projects in excess of $1.3M and managed unit operating budgets of more than $500,000.

Cindy believes volleyball is more than just a game; it is a life experience.  She feels true success is not measured by winning or individual statistics; it is about loving the game you play.  As the Commissioner, for the Puget Sound Region, she will promote volleyball, cultivate an environment to develop personal excellence for each athlete, and foster a life-long love of the game in a caring, respectful, and supportive environment.  Additionally, Cindy is committed to modeling moral character, strengthening the principle ‘We before Me’, and growing a culture of Team First, Volleyball Always.

Cindy will receive a Master’s Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine, in May 2018.  She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree, in Professional Aeronautics, magna cum laude, from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 2004.  Cindy also has three Associates of Arts Degrees:  Instructor of Military Studies, Paralegal Studies, and Electronic Systems, from the Community College of the Air Force.

Cindy, and her husband Blaine will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary later this year.  Together, they have three children:  Makena is attending Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs, Theryn is attending Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, and Brock is in middle school in Colorado Springs.
